MORE !!
People just don't understand how demanding the service industry really is.
Or, sadly, they just don't care.
I work in a place that I never have any less than 11 tables. Which I love because I can handle it, but I also end up helping other tables, not in my station, to compensate for those who can't.
CHEAP PEOPLE SUCK !!

My regular tip for 'good service' is 20%, however if the server is exceptionally cheerful, knows the menu well, makes good recommendatons, the size of the tip increases. When they have numerous tables and the service is so-so they still get around the 20%. I get irrated when we have a small gathering of 6 people (3 couples) and the restaurant policy is to add 15% automatically, it cheats the server out of a better tip. At times I will add a little more. Restaurant owners/managers should leave the amount of the tip to the customers. Obviously our dining friends are not cheap. Last week 4 of us tipped the bus girl $10.00 simply because she was cheerful & courteous, kept our water glasses filled, and picked up the dirty dishes promptly. the waitress got around 23%

I tip between 15-20%. But I don't understand the trend in some restaurants where the server doesn't even bring you the food. Some one else brings it and then the server stops by to see if everything is all right. They never put the right food in front of the right person because they didn't take the order to begin with. We always end up playing musical plates.

Good service deserves 15-20%. That's already taking into consideration how demanding customers can be. If I get exceptionally good service I tend to over tip & go beyond the 20%

Really the tipping percent depends on the quality of the service like you said. So if it is really good sevice then you probally should tip 20% or so just to be nice. But also if you are low on cash then you can always drop down to like 15%.

I honestly tip on how my service was. One time at Applebees I had the best waitress I have ever had. Our bill came out to $40 and I tipped $40. I tip what is deserved. If it was really crumy I still tip the 15%. Everyone needs something and if you have ever seen the movie (I think this is the name) Waited. or Waitress or something like that...well then you know the truth about the service and more.

I'm not that demanding. As long as I don't run out of iced tea and have to wait more than a minute or two for a refill, I am completely understanding. If we get good service we always give more than the standard 15%.

i think a server should be tipped at least 15% even if they give you bad service. (usually they are just having a bad day themselves, and not tipping is cruel as that is pretty much there only income) As for a server who gives you great service you should definatly tip more.

Good service deserves ATLEAST 20%! We are only paid an average of $2 an hour!! We rely on our customers to pay us.

20% is about right if it was good. Sometimes if I think they are having a crappy day and did really good I go higher then that, servers don't get paid enough!
