that's what i learned from my teacher. he says that 1 cents tips tells the waitors have poor service. if not leaving a tip, it makes the servers make the impression that the customers are rude.

if you were a waitor before, you should know that the customer is your boss and you gotta show customers that you need that tip.

if servers are having a bad day, that doesn't mean that they gotta take it out on customers. We are not meant to be mind readers.

i have written letters on yellow paper (yellow makes it more visible) to restaurants complaining about the service and sometimes the restaurants sends me an apology note with a gift certificate so I can continue giving them business.

If it really is bad customer service, I don't leave anything, but I do let the manager on duty know that the service was bad and that was why I didn't leave a tip. If you don't tell them why you are not leaving a tip, they just think you are cheap.
I do take into consideration the circumstances of the restaurant. It is not the servers' fault if the kitchen is slow or if the restaurant is really busy. I have had several occasions where the server was too busy flirting with a table (trying to get a better tip, which is too bad for them because I tip 25-30% for good service) or just standing around doing nothing (ignoring us). In that case, the server does not desearve a tip, and I let them know that!

No!!! The whole reason you go to a restaurant is to be waited on. If they didn't want the job then they should go else where, right?! I work with the public, and if I'm having a bad day I try extra hard to be nice and it usually makes me feel better. Puts me in a good mood, knowing that I made someone else happy. But on another note, I also take in my surroundings, like how busy the restaurant is, how many tables the waiter has, etc. You can't blame the waiter if the foods not right or if they're having to work too many tables, I guess it all depends on the situation.

Yes, being a server is a difficult job with few rewards. I think they probably need to be given a break once in awhile. Usually I give a server 20% but if they have poor customer service I'd give them a 10% tip.

don't leave 1 cent if U don't want to be thought that U are too cheap. U can tell their owner that U didn't get the good serve. I think that the polite way to let them know the way they served. U will or will not be able to come there again.

I usually do but its less than 10%. My cousin does this crazy thing where he places 10 one's on the table and whenever he feels he is getting poor service he picks up a one. Sometimes he tips $10, sometimes he ends up tipping nothing.

No why pay for lousy service, if the shoe was on the other foot and you were the server, you would want to be nice to get a tip

Poor service doesn't deserve a tip at all. The less poor servers get, the more they'll learn to improve !!!

it depends...
If the service was horrible...and I mean really bad, no tip..
If it was marginal... 10% if it was excellent, 20%
I have empathy for servers... I put myself through college waiting tables at TGI Fridays...
