I don't know about how the mirror story started but I'm sure it had something to do with the real bloody Mary, Daughter of King Henry and Catherine of Argonne ( I'm not sure of the spelling of that) She was the true heir to the throne of England bus since Catherine bore no sons for Henry he divorced her after separating England from the Catholic church. After his death, and the death of his very young son another daughter of another wife, Elizabeth became queen of England, a protestant Queen after her death Mary (Catholic) became Queen and had many protestants killed for the previous prosecution of Catholics in England under the rule of Elizabeth. This is how she became known as Bloody Mary.
