I ask because Barack Obama really seems like he cares about most or atleast some of the things that he talks about. Am I just exercising my sheep tendencies?

I was talking to my son last night. He's a Marine, home for the holidays. He has a hole in his hip that would hold a child's toy car. (a hotwheels) He asked me "Pop? who is Bill Gates going to elect next?"
I find no humor in that.
On the way back from the Vet's hospital today that question came up again.
I explained that Candidates set their own agendas and that if the candidate's agenda fit the needs of corporations or special interest groups then they would flock to that candidate and load him or her with contributions. The Agenda is what gets them the monies.
My son. My bright 19 year old Marine Said "exactly pop, who do you think Bill Gates will elect next?"
I see your question then think of the millions in campaign contributions that pay for advertising and I wonder.
It is a popularity contest, there is no doubt about that. The candidate with the best program is the one elected. Well, until Bush.
It might be the best "paid" candidate that gets elected because he or she have the most donations, the most advertising and the best chance to win because of it.
As far as Real Candidates goes. We have yet to find one.

Here is a question as an answer.

How come politicians do NOT have to have any formal training to become President of the United States?

It has to be the most difficult job in the WORLD and perhaps they failed geography when they were working on their communications degree at Yale. HUM, causes more questions.

My personal feeling is that you get a successful business man that has run a multi-national corporation successfully without any ETHICS VIOLATIONS!

We have had some REAL IDIOTS run the United States (R&D) and an idiot is an idiot that looks SMART if they have enough money to throw at it.

Pick a guy, any guy (sorry I just do not think that a woman could handle it) and throw a BILLION DOLLARS into a campaign fund.

With that kind of money they can spin him into anything that they want and then he becomes the "*****" of his financial supporters. People that can throw a $1M to a campaigne want something in return; it is in their genes!

I liked Eisenhower, Kennedy and Regan; the jury is still out on GWB.

GWB inherited a SH%^ STORM out of the chute. He hired/appointed some IDIOTS with their own agenda and it bit him. If he had a failure it was selecting the RIGHT TEAM!

If you are the pres of a big corporation and don't know Sh^& about finance but are a product visionary, then you hire the BEST money guy you can find and ask a MILLION questions; the areas that you do NOT know are held to the highest level of ACCOUNTABILITY and you bust their chops on an hourly basis until you personally get up to speed. I just think that GWB got slicked by a few of his TEAM MEMBERS. Perhaps special interest groups forced the selections and he was forced to sell his soul and do damage control after the fact.

DAMN I hope that this causes a GREAT DEAL of DEBATE because there has to be a BETTER WAY!

Happy Holidays,
J

While large corporations and special interest groups have inordinate power and influence in the elections, they presidential election is hardly a popularity contest. On the other hand, candidates become popular because of their records and because of their stands on issues.

Don't ask me. I have never voted for a Presidential candidate in my life. I was always voting against the lesser of the evils.
