Well first, you need to be more concerned about how you will react and adapt versus people who are really not effected by your change. Live up to yourself and not someone else's view of what they think you should be doing.

Do you.

Welcome to the New Economy..
Today everyone has changed their careers..
I started as a mechnic in 1980's
A computer builder in 1990's
A Security Tech 2000

Yes, we will change careers, but the main issue is that you grow.
That is what great about learning and growing...
Remember your brain is like plastic which you can change and learn new things....Don't stay at the same place..

I meet a friend from high school 23 years ago which he built Porsches in high school, he stayed safe, but he tells me he wished he done more then the same thing....
He has job security, but he is always miserable..

So, change is good... Pretend your on a new adventure and once you get a hold on that field, you know it..

Today, I see some mechnics, computer salespeople or Security people tell me a lie, but since I have been in the field, I can realize they are lying to me or trying to make a quick buck..
so, Live and learn and grow...

If you've gone up in the world (more money that is), then they should be happy without much explanation. If it's down, then they probably will want to know why, but if you like or love what you're doing now, then no matter what the direction, it will show and they'll be glad that you're happy with your choices, even if they wouldn't have chosen it themselves.

If you are certain that this new job is where you should be, show confidence to these friends and family. Show them how excited you are, not how nervous you are, despite the presence of that nervousness anyway.
