As an American I can tell you that we all know it is senseless and silly but we all love to watch these ignoramus celebrities.

My point exactly. I don't buy into all this celeb worshiping the country does on a daily basics. If you ask me some, if not many, in this country have no brain at all if they think celebs are actual role models. Give me a break. Why would I want to make a fool of myself in front of others just to be labeled "cool" by society?
Where are all the smart people who actually make this world a better place to live in? Where are the creative people who inspire us to learn and create new things? Where are the strong types who teach and lead us in the right direction? This country is way out of control and needs to get a reality check and quit focusing on celeb garbage they call news.

Come on get real! Seen a New Idea or Womans Weekly lately, Aussies are just as succeptible as the average American to the gossip about celebrities. My apologies all americans who have been offended by this question, it offended me and Im an Aussie.

That is a very ethnocentric question.
This is a human being / people question.
It is not just an American thing.
You might want to read some of the English newspapers and tabloids. Compared to them, our American cousins are ultra conservative.

We all have our own ways of diverting attention from the every day mundane parts of life. They play the role of a diversion...that is all. They hold no great significance in what is truly important in life. Unfortunately, we are not the only nation who place celebrities on pedestals.

I don't know why-and quite frankly the celebs(women) are not even that hot, save Salma Hayek.People with lots of cash can act like snobs whenever they want-many do.Alls I want is good acting and if she's gonna flaunt her tushy she better be really hot.

Them people don't have anything to worry about, if they were poor and broke like me, they would be to busy trying to work and make a living to be acting like grown up fools.

I agree with you on ignoring the childish bickering going on between celebrities these days. However, I'm not sure I understand why you singled out Americans. I'm sure we're not the only ones with problems like this. It happens everywhere.

Until you asked this question I didn't give a cr*p about any of the stuff you mentioned.
Maybe you didn't know but there are millions of Americans and we each have a mind of our own....that's what makes us special.
