Ballet is one of the hardest to learn. It takes many years to become any good at it, no matter how good your teacher is. Latin (this is what people have mostly mentioned - Bachata, Salsa, Samba) takes only a few months to a year if you have a good instructor and put some effort in it. Try that, that's challenging but not overly challenging.

At a beginner level, you would basically be doing "Bronze" level steps and figures in all of the ballroom dances. Most people seem to think that East Coast Swing, Foxtrot, and Rumba are the easiest steps. American Ballroom Tango was the most difficult for me and my wife to learn. It is generally easier to learn ballroom if you have prior dance experience in ballet or jazz. Matters such as posture and balance are important. American Ballroom Tango is not the same as Argentine Tango. We have been taking lessons in Argentine Tango and we are still finding new things to learn after 8 years of lessons.

I'm a dance newbie myself, but I've gone to dance classes featuring a lot of different styles (such as salsa, swing, foxtrot, rumba, waltz) and the one I feel the least confident in is Argentine Tango.
Of course I had the least amount of instruction in it as well, but I still think it was the hardest dance I was exposed to.

Why are you setting your self up for failure a gain by taking on the hardest so you can quit again in your life so you feel like crap about it. Why not pick a easier dance stick to it and feel good about yourself when you finish it?just a thought

belly dancing is very difficult, plus a major work out. But if you want to be able to dance, like at the club, or parties, I would say take hip hop classes, it is a great work out, but also you can learn some moves.

Its a toss-up between country line dancing or Latin tangos. Both
very difficult to learn especially in a short time and not look stupid.

I think that the salsa is hard to learn. There is a lot of hip movement and you got to loosen the hips otherwise you look really stiff.
