Real punk will always be The Clash, The Sexpistols, Black Flag etc. Why do all the teenie-boppers today think Panic! and AFI and The Killers are punk? They are not rebelling against anything, they have no angst, they don't even sound punk! They're sissy boys with make-up who write catchy tunes and dress retro. Who agrees with me?

I cant agree with you more. They are all tryhards. At school almost everyday I have an arguement with someone on how Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Blink 182 isnt punk. Bands like Panic At The Disco are poluting our airwaves, Its just annoying to walk into a cafe and hear **** on the radio. You just cant get away from **** music it follows you everywhere.

I know what you mean. Most call them Old School now, but punk is punk and these new kids need a new name for their genre. I may look like a mild mannered mom by day but the homemade DK tattoo on my ankle is a nostalgic reminder of my youth in the days of true punk rock.

Hi there, I just laugh about my past 3 years of panic now. I was not able to go anywhere without carrying xanax. Fear of having another attack was the most important subject of my days. When i first found joe barry's web site i started to cry because of my happiness.

sorry to burst your bubble, but afi's music of today is not of the same genre it used to be.....for that matter, the songs by them that are played on the radio and mtv are not representative of their albums either. in the 90s, afi were actually an important part of the eastbay hardcore scene. you should check out some of their early material before making that kind of judgment...

and no, bands such as the panic! or the killers should never be confused for punk...

I would agree for the most part. None of those bands are punk. I'm actually surprised someone would call it that, but some people simply don't know their genres. (Seriously, my friend dared to call Good Charlotte Heavy Metal music. I was ready to claw her eyes out. )

You just have to tell people the differences and give them examples so they'll be able to learn the differences and stop labelling the music incorrectly.

Wookin Pa Nub is correct. AFI's 90s music was in fact punk. Every album up to Black Sails in the Sunset is punk music.
As for the others, you are correct.
I love punk music, it is a passion of mine. I listen to it, I study it, I live it.

i agree that they are not real punk. the are more pop punk. not real punk. punk should not have been so badly consumerized. its a genre of music not a style of clothing that rebellious 13 year olds run around wearing. but i like panic. but they do have angst. check lyrics before you bash a band.
