Okay. Almost every body here has got there facts wrong or twisted or just have no clue.

For a fact I am a muslim woman. I was born in saudi arabia and Let me tell you some of the women there look at western women and pity them.

First of all a women does noit have to work so life is like a breeze all she has to do is basically just have a couple of kids and grow them up to be good people/ muslims. Also a women has the right to own land and she is not the property of her brother or uncle or husband. They are there for her protection.A women who works gets to keep very penny she earns because a man is there to protect and provide for her as a matter of fact it is their duty in islam to do that.

In Islam a man does not have 30 wives he can only have four and he has to treat them all equally. So if he buys a house for one he has to buy house for all of them. If He buys a car or a diamond ring or takes one on a holiday he's got to do it for all of them and treat them all equally with the same love and affection.

Although depending on the level of culture things can change. For example in iran as some one has pointed out women are treated quite badly but it is only because the culture there is so strong. and like in every cultur that has not yet... progressed a male is a dominant firgure. So obviously it's going to look like they are treated like garbage because in those kinds of countries the men who are in charge or claim they are good muslims living according to the quran aren't giving women the rights they deserve by islam. For the simple fact that they don't have too and no one argues because the culture or traditions of the people are much stronger than the religeion. and they believe in a tottaly twisted version of islam.

Saudi Arabia is the only country that forces a women to cover her face and that in it self is against islam it is a womens choice whether she wants to cover her face or not.

A women has the right to vote in islam it was given to her long before it was given to the women of the west. She has the right to choose her own husband and she has the right to divorce him.

So to answer your question women in islamic nations are treated differently depending on the country the are in the culture they follow or the traditions they have. You can not generalise them because the nations of islam range all the way from morocco to malaysia and indonesia. sodifferent peoiple believe and live in different ways.

oh and to one of those guys up there.
You wouldn't even know if the women are more beautiful there because they cover there faces, so you wouldn't have been able to see.

Here let me tell you a story: I knew two Saudi women who both had husbands that treated them like dirt and I mean that literally. Woman A: hers would walk in after being gone all day long order her to pack his bags because he was traveling, take his bags and take off, in addition to that he left her without a TV or a radio to keep her company. They got back to Saudi Arabia - she told him without mincing her words to kiss her ***. He begged her not to, but she had enough.
Woman B: I remember that she was not allowed to call him, even in an emergency, once she was ill, and put it this way she was expected to lie there and die if need be. Once he locked the bathroom door on her (accidental) and she was forced to go in the kitchen sink and grind it down the garbage disposal, and out of sheer desperation she had the neighbor come (another Saudi) come over and unlock the door for her. She was lucky to have a sister-in-law that stood up for her. She finished school and when she got back to Saudi Arabia she had a talk with her dad, he in turn had a talk with the girls father and they both got together with the husband and had a little talk with him.
The husband's father said, "She must really love you to put up with you like that; had that been me I would've kicked your *** to the curb. Treat her better or let her go!"
The husband decided he really loved her and after that he was known to treat her better.
These woman despite their culture do no worse or better than what us American woman do, and don't let that covering fool you, they can rise to the occasion when need be, and they do speak their minds. As for the driving thing, my personal opinion, I don't like driving, I learned had my license, just don't like it.
Funny you should ask this question because I've had Arab women tell me they would never take the crap some of their Arab counterparts would dish out to their American wives.
Which means there is a balance.

It depends on the educational level of the people, but Saudi Arabia is the only islamic nation that treats women like garbage.

The Qur’an give no status to women other than that of chattel, you figure it out. Even in Saudi Arabia, the most liberal Islamic country women are not even allowed to drive.

Hmmmm, come to think of it maybe they have something there! (just joking)

A woman is the property of her father, then her brother if she is unmarried. If she is married she is the property of her husband. If she has no immediate family then she is the property of her uncle and so on and so forth. Under Islam a woman is not allowed to own property so she must be "taken care of" by a male, oddly enough, even if the male would be her 12-year-old son.

addin: I notice that leena=:) for all of her spouting about how good Muslim women have it, is herself living in Canada. Hmm, do you sense some BS in the air?

I would have to say women are treated as second class citizens through out the Islamic religion in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Even in certain Countries like Kuwait where the women have more liberties and independence, they are still expected to submit to their husbands and perform domestic duties. I don't think people should try to change their culture despite many things we might feel are wrong with their way of living.

WHOAAA!!! wuts with this ppl?!!! plz stop making up stuff and sayin it..

ok hun..now am a muslim girl..lived in 3 muslim countries visited a few more..and now livin n canada...so i think i can tell u the truth..but this is gonna be one looong loooooooong answer..

first of all..u cant generalize how women are treated in "islamic nations" cuz its different in every country..its even different from city to city in the same country..

now lets take saudi arabia for example..women are not treated fairly there..they are not allowed to drive, they have to wear a burqa and they can only work in a few specific fields..but in their houses, they are not treated as "property of their father, brother or husband" as some ppl were sayin..actually, saudi girls are spoilt brats...that's the picture there..a girl before getting married does nothing but shoppin and going to parties..honestly..she gets a car with a personal driver and as much money as she wants.. and of course they go to skools and universities unlike wut ppl were sayin...after she gets married(and to be honest and unbiased, they usually marry arranged marriages) she gets a baby sitter and a maid to do all the house work and she still have nothing to do other than shopping and partying..and she is NOT treated as property of her husband, different guys treat women differently..just like in america or canada or anywhere..but still..it is very conservative over there and they're not treated fairly..and they claim that's the correct way of applyin islam..but it isn't..

now taking some other country like lets say..egypt...my home country..girls there do anything they wanna do..they get any job..they drive..they dress in wutever clothes they like..and they're treated ALMOST the same as guys..and again..nobody is treated as property of their dads/bros/husbands/etc.. we go to skool..universities if u want to..we graduate as anything we want..we are def NOT opressed..although there are some problems that ill come to in a while..

now there are other islamic countries like afghanistan that i know they're much more conservative and are not fair but i cant talk about it cuz ive never been there(unlike ppl who never ever went to these places and are justr makin stuff up)

now something ppl were sayin is that girls are judged if they commit adultery and guys aren't...sadly,that's true..its part of the culture and traditions..it is NOT part of the religion because in the religion adultery is forbidden for BOTH girls and guys..but they're just running a lil late..still sticking to pointless traditions..being stoned to death if she commited adultery or not depends on the place she is in..that is possible in afghanistan but is sooo unlikely in say lebanon or egypt..and her family WILL be arrested if they did that..

HAAAA!!tht was so much typing..but i felt i had to it since all the info u were gettin was bullcrap..

have a gr8 day =)

This depends on the country. Turkey and Morocco are two islamic countries that are mostly secular, and women are more or less equal. Countries that are ruled by the religious groups tend to have lesser rights, but this is also true for very fundamentalist christian countries.
