Whenever you are tired of looking at it...be it after New Years or the 4th of July. Generally , I don't put my tree up until a few days before Christmas...I really like the old fashioned tradition of decorating it Christmas Eve with hot chocolate and egg nog and then I leave it up until a few days after New Years and I've truly enjoyed it because I haven't been staring at it for an entire month before Christmas even got here. If I put it up right after Thanksgiving I'm ready to take it down a few days after Christmas..It's also nice to have it up when you celebrate the New Year. Of course, here in the south land you do frequently find people who leave Christmas decorations up year round...check Jeff Foxworthy for comments on that elite group of folks. Break the rules and do it your way. Enjoy your tree!

Christmas Season ends 12 days after Christmas. Take it down then.

Take it down down reasonably soon after the Christmas and New Year festivities are over and before it dries up and put it outside close to the curb if the city has pick up service. Dried up trees have beeen cause of fires in the homes.

The 12 days of Christmas are observed from December 25th to January 5th. So they are right when they say January 6th.
