They should be abolished, removed, closed, shut-down, banned, eliminated, stopped. They do not stand up for the American citizen.

They are supported by the very same organizations that support LaRaza and MEChA, those Hispanic organizations that feed their Aztlan propaganda to our children in our schools and Universities.~ The Ford Foundation and The Carnegie Institute

The organization's policy is that free speech rights must be available to all citizens and residents of the United States. This policy sometimes leads to cases where the Union defends unpopular people and organizations. The Union has taken on cases to defend the free speech rights of clients as diverse as Ku Klux Klan members, neo-Nazi groups, North American Man/Boy Love Association (a group which promotes lifting all age restrictions on pederasty) and the Westboro Baptist Church, a group which uses signs reading "God hates fags" in its protest actions at soldiers' funerals.

They support the decriminalization of drugs such as heroin, cocaine and marijuana

They support illegal immigrants

The ACLU not only should not be disbanded--we all, as Americans, should support it's mission.

To see why, you need to understand what the ACLU does. Their job is not to "represent American citizens"--nor has it ever been. Their role is to be a watchdog--to callenge the government in cases when state action against individuals or groups seems to be in violation of the Constitution. Note, however, that they do not "decide" these issues. Rather, they (by means of legal action) act to bring such issues before the courts.

The ACLU is not--and will never be--a popular organization with many people because of this role. And most people--including myself--don't agree whith at least some of their positions. But what they do--force the government to address these issues--is critical to the functioning of a democracy. They are not the only organization that does this, by the way--simply the best known. But there are others--and some with a decidedly conservative slant, rather than the ACLU's liberal one. All serve this same function.

One thing that is often misunderstood about the ACLU and similar organizations is that they must take on unpopular causes. For example, many people (including myself) have no sympathy for the criminal who was the subject of the famous Miranda case (the one that established that an accused person must be informed of his/her legal rights). that case was take on not because the ACLU or anyone else liked Miranda. They brought the case because the evidence showed that the authorities had acted in a blatently illegal manner--and that legal protections were needed--not to protect the guilty, but to protect innocent people from being railroaded. The resulting system is not perfect. But (despite the hype and horror stories) ipeople who track these things can show it has kept far more innocent people out of jail than it has let guilty ones go free.

Another case (about 15 years ago, I think) involved the ACLU defending the Ku Klux Klan's right to march. Few people had much sympathy for the KKK--and the ACLU certainly did not and does not. But the KKK has as much right to "peacable assembly" and freedom of speech as anyone else--and those were the rights the ACLU was defending.

I'm not suggesting you like all the people the ACLU or similar organizations defend--but if they were "disbanded" someone else would quickly step forward to take their place. And you had better hope that remains true. Without the willingness to confront the government--to force it to account for its actions and alter them when called for--you will not enjoy living in a free society for very long.

No, because it's a non-profit organization that operates from donated money.

Banning them would violate their rights and that's not right. If you're gonna ban the ACLU because it "seems that they do not stand for American citizens" then you should ban just about every other organization that SOME PEOPLE believe don't work for th American citizens.

nicely, enable's see... There could be no infant contained in the manger, with the aid of fact it could have been aborted. the three "smart adult males" could be terrorists that have been given off scot loose with an ACLU protection. Joseph, could of path, be Joseph Stalin. The Angel could be Lenin, blessing all contained in the Commey way.

Disbanded, I'm sure you mean.

No. It most certainly should not. It stands for American citizens, but, unfortunately, not those citizens who are already members of the dominant majority (i.e., middle-class white Christians) because the dominant majority, by definition, aleady has enough privileges to make it pretty well in the world without being given more privileges by an organization such as the ACLU.

And this group also enforces the constitutional (yes, written by the forefathers into the Constitution) separation of church and state and citizens' rights to free speech, both of which make our country, well, not Iraq or Mexico or Russia or China. So quit your whining.

Yes, they are more concerned about giving rights to terrorists who obviously do not deserve or legally have any. As well they totally victimize minorities as if they have no rights, when the minorities already have more rights than the majority of Americans. ACLU is nothing but a worthless liberal organization,

My dear, you are so ill informed. How did you come to this conclusion? What type of research have you done into the history of the ACLU? These are rhetorical questions.

I suggest you read, historian, Howard Zinn's books on American history. Take a glance.

No....and don't listen to any of these answers. The ACLU is much better than not having the ACLU. Look at it that way. They are a non-profit orginization.
