Whats the difference between a Epiphone guitar and a Fender?

I bought this guitar from this little shop for someone for a Xmas gift...And now it's all wrapped all pretty...Which took forever to do. And They told me it's a Fender guitar but my reciept says Epiphone. Did I get ripped off?

What does it say at the top of the guitar Love??? Fenders guitars are good but I like Epiphones & Gibsons better!!

Epiphones are made overseas - e.g. in Korea where labor costs are cheaper. Some Epiphones are made by OEMs - "Original Equipment Manufacturers". OEMs make products for another company. Samick is a big OEM for epiphone, it makes a lot of epiphone guitars to epihone's specs. Epiphone rebrands them as epiphone guitars. Other examples of this are Yamaha's Taiwanese acoustic factory and the guitars that it makes for Fender. Epiphones generally have a lower-grade wood than their Gibson counterparts. That can mean anything from the wood being less resonant to looking more cosmetically inferior. The wood used in Epiphones is generally not the same quality as that used in the U.S.-made Gibsons. Epiphones generally use thinner veneer tops for cosmetics. The Epiphone Les Pauls use a thin veneer of maple for their figured maple tops instead of a thicker slab that's used on the Gibsons. Both wood and pickups have a huge effect on the tone, but you get what you pay for....

You should have Make,Model Name/Number,and a serial Number on the Receipt.
If it was a New instrument,,you should have also received owners manual and warranty registration form,etc

I realize it's a hassle to open the GiftWrapping,,,,
but if it was ME,,I would want to know.

Without any specific details of the deal it's impossible to know if you've gotten what you paid for.

The price difference between the 2 brands can be substantial at each grade/level for "comparable" guitars.

Up or Down a grade can be a LARGE difference

Fenders are typically a bit higher priced.

Just as one Example:
If you PAID for a Fender,,and were given an Epiphone,,it's possible you overpaid.

If you Paid for an Epi,and Got one,,,,but thats Not what you wanted,,,,,then that's just "Wrong".
And if somebody is expecting a Fender for a Gift,,,they're gonna be disappointed.

I'm sure it's all an Honest Mistake somehow....
But I think it's worth the extra effort to resolve the issue & any questions you have in your mind.

Epiphone is imported by a company named Gibson. Fender is either imported from different countries or built in the U.S.

They are NOT related in any way. Actually, an Epiphone is generally a better guitar, but if your guitar says Fender and the receipt says Epiphone they screwed up at the shop one way or another.

Depends on what you paid. Fender makes several grades of guitars, from cheap ones Fender - "Squire Affinity Series" to real good "Fender USA" models. Epiphone's are Gibson's cheaper brand. They are usually of pretty good quality and about one half the price of a "real" Gibson. I play bass and have a Fender "Made In Mexico" Jazz bass I love. I also have a Fender "Made In USA" "P" bass. I have a Gibson "Grabber" bass and an Epiphone "Thunderbird" bass. I won't say there are not quality differences, but to be honest, unless they are a professional musician, it probably won't matter. They'll just be glad to have a new axe!

fender and epiphone are tottally different brands. it may be a problem, i'd call up the store, of go there and get it stratened out,
