I grew up in Michigan, and I have a friend from Niles, which is closer to Chicago (where I live now) then to Detroit. Small town.

No to Michigan and Germany, but I do live in southern Arizona ( a few hours from Flagstaff). Close enough? :)

The highest city by elevation is Leadville, Colorado, surprisingly! The temperature change is really due to the geographic change, going from the Pines to the desert, with a quick drop in elevation descending from Flagstaff to Phoenix. Flagstaff has four seasons with snow; Phoenix is hot all year round!
