You mean besides the obvious reason that the City of New York paved a section of ground and named it Broadway? :-) Because a culture revolves around the plays that are produced there, it is an economic, cultural, and metropolitan center, and because the atmosphere on Broadway is contagious. Dreams are made, achieved, and burst on The Great White Way. Broadway is there so that all us theater kids can keep dreaming.

plays have to be shown somewhere and New York decided to put them together to form a district for legit theater hence we have Broadway off Broadway and off off Broadway for plays
