Do you guys actually LIKE your royals or do you just put up with them?
Are they really like they were in the movie "The Queen"?
Just wondering.
Good night to all from Chicago.

Thanks for asking Moriah. Most Brits who ask or answer
on this subject, seem to do it in an offensive way. And you,
from Chicago have questioned us in an educated manner
which, to me, is very pleasing. Not that I am Royal but the
Queen is 80 and shows dignity which is well above all of us
on Q&A. Whilst the politicians squabble in Parliament and
slander each other, often to get a title, Her Majesty keeps
her head up and is an example to all, Brits and colonials
alike. Yes, I am a Monarchist even if the majority may disagree.
And, my feelings are shared by more Americans than by British,
who should be proud of her silent leadership. Answer your own
question, and I am certain that you will feel happier with our
Queen than you are with George W. Bush, who could take a
little example on educated manners and do better for America.
I am not saying that the USA do not have their own greats since
I know they do, and I respect them as they deserve. Only trying
to point out that the Queen, in person, has held her office for well
over 50 years with a clean record. Can anyone else beat that?
Thanks again from the UK to the USA, and love to you for caring.

The Royals divide Britain like never before - it's a real love-hate relationship - people still want to read about Britain's best-known family.
I would say that their popularity ebbs and flows. They went through a renaissance of sorts during the Diana era and then slumped a bit at her death. Now, sort of gently plateauing / possibly even rising.
To be fair, the Royal Family have done a lot to be less dependent on government / taxpayers. On the other hand, while there is a cost to the government, they do generate revenues as well. They help British exports by flying the flag and there are PR intangibles which are of great value to the British brand as it were.
Overall, we like them... or is it that we wouldn't mind to be in their shoes!

Moriah, do these quotations make you like the Queen more or less, or tell you anything about her?
* "Grief is the price we pay for love."
In a letter read at the memorial for British victims of the 9/11 attacks held in New York.
====================
Opening a speech to the U.S Congress on May 16, 1991, the day after giving a speech where the podium was too high for her to see over.
* "I do hope you can see me today."
====================
While being shown around an artificial insemination unit of the Milk Marketing Board
* "What's that?"
"It's a cow's vagina, ma'am"
"Ask a silly question!"
=====================
In reply to a shopkeeper who said "You look awfully like the Queen."
* "How very assuring!"
=====================
And finally:
Said to a young lady (who was invited to have tea with her) when the young lady's mobile phone rang during their talk:
"You'd better answer that. It might be someone important."

What a load of moaning ne'er do wells the British have become. Knocking everything that is envied the world over. Idiots coming on here saying that the Royals are spongers, when half the population get by blood sucking off hard working people,but of course that's o.k. ! It is back to a sentiment I have used for other answers, when people lose their own self respect( or do not have any justification to respect themselves)you can begin to see why they don't respect anyone, anything else.

We British have a unique sense of self. We have a wonderful love/hate relationship with the Royal Family.
You have to admire the Queen, she works tirelessly , has her families dirty laundry hung out for all to paw at and yet retains her dignity and love of life.
We like them to be characters like the Queen Mother,bless her. We can use then to give an edge to our lives.
Plus we sure as heck like to be able to moan about them!

I have visited Canada many circumstances as both my father and brother lived there for a lengthy time period. The Canadians are frequently warmth and liberal human beings.
