Cave crickets also known as Camel crickets or Spider Crickets or even "sprickets" are orthopteroid insects of the family Rhaphidophoridae which are found in association with caves. Those occurring in New Zealand, Australia, and surrounding environs are typically referred to as Cave Wetas, and belong in a different subfamily (see link). The most common and well-known species outside of Australia are those of the subfamily Ceuthophilinae, which also includes the Sand treaders (genus Macrobaenetes and allies).[citation needed]

Camel crickets are found across the United States. They Love New Jersey because of the humid conditions that the state, especially South Jersey has to offer. They love dark damp places, that's why they are often found in basements. many of the older homes in South and Central Jersey do have basements that tend to be damp. If you want to get rid of them you can try changing the conditions that attract them. Here is a very good article that details how to get rid of camel crickets http://www.catopestcontrol.com/content/readmore1/infobox/news/template/default/active_id/30

I think you are talking about what we call potatoe bugs- about an inch and a half long, fat and with a face somewhat like a baby. The Mexicans call them niño de le tierra, or child of the earth. Many people believe them to be deadly, but they are harmless.

Also known as Jerusalem crickets.

Do a Google search for Jerusalem cricket, click images and see some good pictures.

I had never seen them when I lived in California, but have had the misfortune of running across them far too many times since I've moved to Indiana. I find tons of them in my mother's garage and occasionally they come into the house. They're really the only insect I've ever encountered that truly freak me out. Probably because I've had some bad "meetings" with them. Like having one jump up my pant leg while getting dressed for work at three in the morning! *shivers*

I would be a bit afraid of using them unless you are really really sure that they have gotten into nothing that would harm your dragon. Are your plans to catch them and dust them? I get them from time to time here and you are right, they are totally disgusting but I think I would swat them and sweep them up before giving to any of mine. Besides you don't know what they have eaten and how do you plan to gut load them?

We had them in Minnesota and I always thought they were much cooler than the common variety. My mother had a different opinion though, as I used to raise all kinds of insects that sometimes escaped from their cages...
