Always keep the car in D4. All this does is make all four gears available to your car. If you are going slow and only need to be in thrid gear than the car will drive in third gear. The only time that you may want to put it in D3 is if you are going fast up a hill and the car keeps switching between third and fourth gears. Then you can put it in D3 and it will stay in third.

If you want to sacrifice gas for better acceleration then D3.Driving in D3 will make your transmission shift at higher RPMs meaning you will use more gas. I have a 96 accord EX and i drive mostly on D4 because thats wat its mostly meant for, i mean come on its a family car.D4 will make your gears shift at lower RPM. Don't shift around your gears because its an automatic, doing that will mess up ur transmission and possibly break your transmission field. I used to mess around and shift from 1 to D4 every 6000 rpms for faster acceleration. Over time my engine sounded a lil different and wasnt shifting the right way when i was in D4 so take it from my experiance. Its up to you. You can drive it how ever you want,D3 or D4,jus dun mess around with it too much. I will how ever advise you use D3 or 2 when it snows alot cuz you have more control over your car with more power to your front wheels, jus dun punch it. and if you find yourself redlining, u better change it to a higher gear right away b4 you blow something. D3 should just hit redline at 100mph.

Always use D4, unless you are pulling a steep hill. D4 is overdrive.

you can drive in either.D3(direct drive) will give you lots of power and acceleration/poor gas mileage.D4(overdrive) will give you the same power(if you make it downshift) but will give you the best gas mileage possible.
