I have been looking around FOREVER for cheap computers/laptops... cause im a poor kid and don't have anything better to do. My answer may not be what you want to hear, since you have probably already checked here... but dell really has the best deals on laptops. HP has some pretty nice deals too... I am going to get a dell once I get enough money... around $700.00

WHY DELL?
alot of the times they have discouts on items, buy the thing you want when they are having a special on it. They have one day low prices ALL the time! Just check back frequently.

Normally free shipping and handling

Sometimes they throw in a free printer for you

dell has the most customizable computers that you can order online

the price is very low compared to other places!

P.S. If you ever decide you want to get a PC instead of a laptop, go to www.cyberpowerpc.com and start at the $465.00 computer and build it.

I would definitely recommend a MacBook (Apple's more affordable laptop). I've had one now for about six months, and I have been extremely pleased. The starting price is $1,099 I believe, but it's definitely worth the purchase. It's the only laptop (besides their Pro version) that I know of that has a magnetic power adapter (which would sound dangerous, but it's actually far from). Reason I bring it up is that if you trip over the power cord, the cord will pop off your computer, instead of taking the computer to the ground with the cord. And I just personally think that OS X is superior Windows XP any day. Btw, Macs can now run Windows XP (which you'll have to buy separately)

I would say Dell.
I had an Insperion 8100 and I beat the hell out of that thing and it kept going. I only sold it on ebay when I was really broke one time. I actually cried:(
Programming was good and like I said I was brutal with it.
I did break the screen when the cat knocked it off a shelf that was about 4 feet up. The screen was easy to replace and easy to find.

This completely depends on the specifications. If you are worried about the brand, then ACER or DELL can give you a better price for latest technology additions and for DELL, you can get your laptop even customised by adding, the latest graphics card etc. Cheers.

Try a Mac... they look cool and its perfect for a student or someone that doesnt need a whole lot of mumbo jumbo. They have a great support team and they are really quite affordable.
