It's not even in the top ten. With the exception of Finland (#10) the top 9 seem to all come from former communist countries.

Then and Now suicide is often used as a way to save face, to atone for misdeeds, or simply out of despair from finance, romance, or failure - etc....

In old Japan seppu-ku - ritual suicide was both a punishment and an honor amonst the samurai class. If a samurai failed he could be ordered to commit seppu ku or he would offer to do or just do right away in atonement. To be executed without seppu-ku would have been shameful to a samurai. In a losing battle samurai would kill themselves rather than be captured - this spirit would revive in WWII.

In modern society suicides occur amongst teens often out of despair for failing entrance exam. Salary men commit suicide for losing their jobs.

The Chou Line in West Tokyo is notorious for jumpers. It got so bad that the train line charges the family.

There are online groups that allegedly get connect people together for suicide pacts. A year or two ago a van was discovered with 4 suicides who met each other online.

Yet despite the train jumpers, the online suicide groups, the high school suicides, etc... Japan isn't even in the Top 10. However amongst industalized nations Japan's suicide rate is very high and these internet suicide pacts are said to be growing.

I think that Japan's suicide rate is one of the highest in the world, due to stress related and emotional problems.
Many students take their lives knowing that they are unable to enter certain universities of their choice.
Some students commit suicide because of bullying in school.
And it is a very serious problem, because their schools aren't able to create a safe environment for their pupils.

This definitely isn't so unusual for jap society. yet you will desire to understand the society to appreciate this. very resembling people who learn our homicide costs with theirs, they have a thoroughly diverse physique of strategies, consequently it particularly is like evaluating Apples and Blue Whales. it particularly is too long winded to go into now,as I would desire to visit paintings, yet area of that's a physique of strategies that places the community till now ones self. consequently if someone felt they have been of little need,or a dtriment to those around them they'd be extra probably to commit suicide than a self standard American would be. If the yankee can sustain a existence they discover acceptable, whether it particularly is adverse to those around them they does no longer evaluate such an option, because of the fact in usa it particularly is "all approximately me" the place in Japan it particularly is extra like it particularly is "all approximately us" besides the actuality that admittedly no longer as much because it as quickly as replaced into,it particularly is between the excuses I even have constantly fashionable the way of existence. with a bit of luck that a minimum of supplies a suitable thought of what one reason must be. Eastern European nations currently are the world's highest suicide nations. Lithuania supposedly has the highest suicide rate.

The basic trend, though, is that wealthy nations have higher suicide rates.

Not quite sure but I read that Russia has the most male suicides, per capita, of all industrialized nations. If that indeed is true, it's thanks to Boris Yeltsin.

Close. They got a thing for kamikaze. Like how they like to go on suicidal missions by flying their planes straight into the US warships in WW2. KABOOM!

And they like flinging themselves onto railways and getting crushed by oncoming trains into paste and end up on newspapers. What a way to die! All blood and glory.
