I was wondering if anyone knows if it is safe to use a tanning bed that does not have an acrylic shield in the canopy of the bed. AS long as the one is on the bottom so I can lay on it, is it necessary to definately have one on the top or does the acrylic shield serve some sort of purpose that is health related that I don't know about? I always thought the acrylic was transparent and did not block any of the rays so what would be the difference without it?

Unfortuantely, NO tanning bed is safe. Just a few turns in the tanning bed significantly increase your chances for skin cancer. Fake it, DON'T bake it!

Theyre all gonna tell you its unsafe...I know its unsafe but im going to tan anyway so, if youre like me...it is just as safe to tan without it but, it increases the uv rays therefore you have an increased chance of burning. I could only lay 10 minutes in a twenty minute bed after the acrylic was removed! So, I highly recommend replacing the acrylic.

Tanning beds all shoot UV rays at you (which is what gives you a tan), so no, they are not safe no matter what. A tan is when your skin produces melanin to protect itself more from damage. Getting a tan means to damage your skin with UV rays, hence the production of melanin. If you want a tan, get a fake tan (good ones can look very realistic, and they won't damage your skin). There is no need to worry about the fact that they aren't permanent, because even tanning beds don't give you permanent tans, since skin renews itself every few months.

Tanning beds are just asking for skin cancer and even increased aging rates of your skin! Try a sunless tanner like Neutrogena micromist. It makes the TOP3 best list! See this source for why. http://www.beautyqa.com/
