I wish every question weren't framed in the liberal versus conservative terms, but I think it the current popularity of liberal ideas is a reaction to the failures of the Republican conservative agenda. In spite of having six years where the Republicans had control of the Presidency and both houses, they managed to blow almost ALL their opportunities to accomplish anything, and yet they continued to cry that they were being persecuted by the Clintons, Liberal Democrats, Liberal media, judicial activism, sun spots, leprechauns, and evil eyes.

I wouldn't say popular! at least not in America!
I'll put it this way, everyone in the world is not smart. And stupid people tend to stick together(bird of a feather flock together).
So a lot of stupid ignorant and uneducated people are in favor of liberals.
