Wow! Those books are exactly what I'm reading right now except for A Tree Grows In Brooklyn. i did pick that one up once though, but I got Gone with the Wind instead =] Also try Sense and Sensibility, also by Jane Austen. I switched to p&p though, but i'm planning to get back to it soon enough. I'm also reading Le Miserables, but haven't gotten to it for a while. i heard that Grapes of Wrath is really good too.

I like a lot of the books you mentioned! If you're a Jane Austen fan, you can try Mansfield Park and Sense and Sensibility. S&S was good, but Pride and Prejudice is still my favorite. Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook) and his other books are good too.

Different Seasons by Stephen King. Even though you may be familiar with the movies that have been made based on 3 stories in this book, they are all very dramatic and are a very good read. It's interesting to see how the novella versions of the movies played out compared to the movies themselves. Plus the last story in the book (which has no movie based on it) is quite a shocking story.

Ask a literature teacher or a librarian for help.

You should probably be thinking of authors rather than specific books. In addition to Jane Austen, you might want to check out Gustave Flaubert, Franz Kafka, and Fyodor Dostoevsky.

I'd recommend anything by Jane Austen to you, seeing as you have some of her books listed. "Emma" and "Sense and Sensibility" are particuarly fine. They all have strong female characters, and that seems to be the pattern suggested by your titles. "Up a Road Slowly" and "Where the Lilies Bloom" are enjoyable too, but they are quicker reads. "Wuthering Heights" is good, but perhaps an obvious suggestion.
