I honestly think it's just his television personality.
He did start out on the Daily Show.
Er, ok, should I mention Stranger's with Candy? (The furthest
thing from conservatism on the planet)

I read he is a conservative democrat. He is from South Corolina and that is a blue dog area so he might very well be. I think he does believe a lot of what he says but some of it is an act. I think he was serious when discussing stem cells and made the comment "If they are just cells why aren't babies dropping off my arms?" He is funny either way though.

No, he's utilising the tried and actual favourite attitude of Liberals: faux to be a dumb conservative with the intention to make exciting of Conservatives and their values. If a conservative pretended to be a Liberal, no person might have the potential to tell in the event that they have been trolling, through fact Libs have such stupid innovations interior the 1st place. Stephen Colbert's show is dripping with sarcasm the whole way through.
It's like the Landover Baptist parody site. Just realistic enough that some people think it's legit, but just crazy enough that intelligent people eventually figure out it's all tongue in cheek.

The man is a comic and goes for what is controversial and funny. If you think of it as slapstick humor it helps and if you think of his actions at poking fun at those who take themselves too seriously it helps even more. If you take him seriously then I want to talk to you about a bridge I want to sell in Brooklyn.

Look him up on wikipedia. He wasn't even political until he did the daily show. He is sarcastic and doesn't believe a word he says.
