I want to join our High School band. Im a sophmore in high school. I have played the flute in 6th grade, but I decided it wasnt my type of instrument. I would rather play the trumpet or drums. So do you think I can still join?

Oh for sure... talk to your band director... and there might be a beginner band... or he'll let you join, but he might suggest some private lessons. The most important thing is you already know how to read music. Provided you have the correct ombasure(spelling?) it might be easier for you to pick up trumpet because the music reading is similar... as both are usually in treble clef.

I don't know if you have to try out.

Are you willing to start on 3rd chair. When I was a drummer my sophomore year in Band, I was in last place. If I was lucky, I got to play cymbals or bass drum for Sousa marches. I occasionally got to play the chimes or vibraphone.

If you really want to get good at brass or drums, then join a Drum & Bugle Corps.
