Mu hubby and I have a little girl. (Which by the way is what I had hoped for in round 1). Now I am pregnant with a boy. We have chosen to have him circumsized. Where can I find information on how to care for a circumsized penis. I am really nervous about this and would like to read up in advance. Also, any personal stories or insight you can provide would be helpful.

Congradulations!!

I juse had a boy myself (2 weeks old today) and we had him circumsized. The hospital told me to simply wipe his penis off gently with a baby wipe when needed (aka a very messy diaper) otherwise just leave it alone. Do NOT try to take the bandage off. It will fall off on its own. One tip they gave me, although they said it wasn't necessary, is to rub a little vaseline on the diapers so his penis won't stick to the material and pull the bandage off too soon.

One warning though, because it freaked me out until the pediatrician said it was normal....it will look God Awful!!!! Very red and swollen. I thought my son's was going to fall off or something!! No one warned me how it would look while healing.

Hope that helps!

I have four boys and they have all been circumcised. The nurse will show you how to care for it after the procedure. One thing that the doctor told me with my second one though was to give him Tylenol before and then use Neosporin with pain reliever in it (I think it has something that dulls the pain in it). Anyway, ask your doctor first, but I've followed that with my last three and they seemed to be much more comfortable. Oh, and if you have to change the bandages, make sure and get the non-stick gauze squares. Makes it all much easier. Take care, congratulations and good luck! :)

Ouch...everyone says it is soo much more sanitary..but if you pull the skin back (around the penis head) and wash with a wash rag..every night when you give your baby a bath...and when he is older teach him how to care for himself..it is just the same...The reason I am against it is because...my little brother (recently..he is 7 months now) was circumcized and that poor little babies penis was so blood fire red...you had to keep his diaper really loose..and if you held him to close..where his penis accidentally rubbed his diaper that poor baby would scream..it looked WAY to f-ing painful...I would just assume wash the baby..and teach him when he is older how to take care of himself..(my husband is uncircumcized..and his mom obviously showed him when he was younger how to care for himself..and he is clean) but if you insist on it...their are a few websites...just go to Google and type in Circumcision*sp* and they will pop up.(I just did it) Good luck and Congrats.

There is not much for you to do. Once he is circumcised they will wrap his little penis and within a few days he will be okay. He will not cry when he urinates or anything and he really should not even cry when you are cleaning him up. Simply be gentle. I felt the same way until I experienced it with my son, it was no big deal... So do not worry, you and your baby will be okay =)

When my son was Bron they said he had hypospadious. This is where the hole that his pees from is at the middle of the shaft instead of at the tip of it. we had to wait till he was six months old to fix this, and get him circumcised that was an experience he had a stint in him for a few weeks. the stint when it came out was about six inches long!! he was swollen and red I was very nervous about it, but every thing turned out great! The nurses told me how to clean it and gave me enough supplies to last. I am sure they will do the same for you. you will do fine!!! Good luck!

I had my son circumsized too, the best thing to do is to ask the doctor who does it for care advice.

http://www.babycenter.com/circumcision

They have a TON of great baby information, and lots of info on circumcision. We decided not to cirumcise my DS (now 6mnths) after a lot of research, and after hearing a lot of horror stories about botched jobs. But with the right information, you can make a more informed decision, and possibly look into a physician with a good track record.HTH : )

Unless it is part of your deeply held religious belief I would advise
you to think about it for one reason only the baby will know
if it really hurts and he will be too young to tell you why.My
view is that it is his body and his alone. He will be as precious to you as all the light in Heaven. The jury is still out on whether there is any real benefit to circumcision.

this is my first pregnancy and i asked my mom what her opinion on circumcision is. she used to be a caregiver and told me that as men get older they don't necessarily clean down there like they should be, and can have a higher increase of infection. but how to take care of it i really don't know =/ sorry
