We recently got a new manager at my job. One of my co-workers, who is definitely a troublemaker, is constantly making snide comments and trying to get her in trouble. She pretends to be nice to the manager. There have been other instances where she has backstabbed people and told lies too (said they were racist etc).

Do I tell the manger to watch her back?

You have to tread VERY carefully, here. It's understandable that you feel obligated to share what you know with your manager out of loyalty or a deep personal or professional feeling for her. But, managers are usually pretty savvy folks. (That's how they get to be managers).

Before making a decision in either direction, consider this: Is anyone else aware of your co-worker's dirty dealings? If yes, why are they not sharing their knowledge? If no, you place yourself in a position to be "ratted out" by sharing what you know with your manager.

Put yourself in the manager's position for a moment. If you learned that someone was undermining you, your first act would be a confrontation with the guilty party. This would expose the person who reported the incident--BIG TIME.

Whatever you decide, be careful. This is almost a no-win situation for you.

No, do not get involved. Trust me, the manager is keen on this employee and is probably already working on a plan to let her go. Just look out for yourself and distance yourself from her.

If her behavior is interfering with your ability to do your job, then by all means report that to the manager.

Good luck, I can't stand people like that.

YES! but go to the manager and explain that you dont want to be known as a narc, and you want to be left out of it all. Explain what has happened in the past, and tell her what has been said. She will appreciate it, and maybe you wont have to deal with it after they fire her! Distance yourself from these kind of people, and watch your back!!

NO! Even though what your co worker is doing or you think might do is wrong any involvement on your part could blow up in your face.
