Good grades (not to mention better spelling), will get you into a good school better than some unknown executive at Staples. Recruiters find "name-dropping," very annoying - especially when done by people assuming it will help them.

If you want good references, have an ex-teacher, principal, coach, or boss at a job write you letters of recommendation. Be sure you know or ask what the letter will say, and include phone numbers. That helps a lot!

To your P.S.
When applyng for admission or a job - spelling matters a lot. It shows pride in one's work, attention to detail, and the ability (or not) to project oneself well. People don't want someone who may represent them one day looking uneducated..

If Staples has something to do with sponsoring the new college, it might help, but if Staples has no association with them, they won't care one bit.

As far as spelling goes, I just took my college placement test. I had to write an essay, and part of the grading is spelling. I had no spell checker to work with. Here on Yahoo! Answers, there is a spell checker. I would have an issue admitting a student who refused to use available resources to communicate properly.

NO, just because your step-mom works as an executive doesn't mean that u should say something. Just apply to some colleges and you will be fine.

No, don't do any name - dropping, your lack od knowledge will instead reflect on your step - mom, giving her a poor image. Instead go on your own merits, whatever they are.

What does your MOTHER'S job have to do with you? Nothing.

And, spelling is essential for college applications and college success.

With that kind of attitude, you sound spoiled and "entitled." School is for those who want to learn and retain their lessons, not blow them off once they're out. Otherwise, why go?

no. the only way she could get you into a good school is if she herself went there or if she gives them a lot of money.
