yours is a very interesting question I must admit. all human beings are not like the same clock. even one human being "rings" to different clock times. let me clarify. your own falling asleep "fast" or "delayed" depends to a great extent on your own psyche, what you have been doing before going to bed, your eating, your tiredness, your stressful state etc. etc. all these factors taking into account -- sometimes there is a delay in falling asleep. I live in a northern (cold climate), thus I find a long walk 45 min. min. before going to bed -- does its trick. On the contrary, lots of worries, (money, taxes, love affairs etc) do delay definitely the sleep. and if I may add -- not all "sleep" is the same, because of these factors. some of the sleep we have is very restful and you are full of energy the next day, and some "other sleep" is very disturbing -- and when you do wake up -- you do not have the energy going for you. In short, there are many answers to your question from most of us here, and the only correct one can only be given by you --test yourself, do the jogging or walking before going to bed --and you will see the difference. some "food" definitely retard the sleep process --and some others help it -- again it depends on our own constitutions reacting to these foods and the practice can not be generalized. hope it helps.

There is hope for you. A proprietary diet supplement beverage product that you should know about. It has adaptagins for every organ and every function of the human body. It is a combination of herbs that is perhaps the most tested product in history. The name of the product is Tunguska Blast. It will become a household name over the next few years. Trust Me!!! I take a cap full every day and no longer have trouble falling asleep. There is a dot.com reference below that is the only source that I know of where it may be found.

To help me sleep I tense every muscle in my body and starting at my toes I relax and start deep inhalations. When I'm relaxed I start telling myself that I feel heavy. I can actually start parts of my body getting to heavy that I really have to will myself to move. I guess this is self hypnosis but it puts me in a trance to where even if my mind is racing I feel more refreshed in the morning. My husband says I fall asleep the moment my head touches the pillow.

Sleep waves come about every 90min so if your not falling asleep don't stay in bed you will only get frustrated get up and move around but don't do anything that you can't stop as soon as another wave starts when you feel it go straight to bed.

Try reading a book or a magazine while in bed...When I read it relax my eyes and eventually I'm ready to fall asleep in 10 minutes or less.

How long is the period of time between your last meal and your bedtime? Don't eat 3 hours before you go to sleep and don't drink any caffeinated drinks including Soda,Coffee or Tea. Make sure your mind is empty before you go to sleep.Write down anything you want to remember that way you feel at ease quicker.

I work out (about 30 minutes before bed) and then take a hot shower. The hot water relaxes my muscles and I can sleep better.

Maybe you're not really tired at that time. Try staying up an extra 30 minutes and see what happens. You could also try having a small glass of warm milk before bed.

try to avoid caffeine (tea, coffe, soda) and foods high in sugar within two hours of going to bed. i'm a big fan of those environmental noise machines...plays things like rain, streams, ocean sounds, etc and really helps me when i can't get to sleep. maybe try a lavendar pillow spray or putting lavendar lotion on before bed...it's supposed to be calming and promote sleep. sometimes it works for me, sometimes it doesn't. good luck finding something that will work for you.

Control your breathing. Close your eyes and just breathe slowly and hold it for a few more seconds than normal.
