You don't tell,
you politely ask for his daughters hand in marriage... or say "sir, I love your daughter very much, and I would like your permission to ask (name) to marry me."
Seriously, you will have earned his respect and he'll be on your side!

THis depends on the relationship you have with her dad.
Okay. You don't tell a father that you're going to take his daughter away.
You first need to sit him down and tell him how much you love his daughter and what she means to you.
Then you ASK whether you can marry his daughter in a polite and manly way. Dont' sound like a wimp...you need to show him your strong side (in a respectful way).

The best way for you to get you point across it to politely ask him to marry his daughter. Say "Sir I've asked your daughter to marry me and she's accepted; would you grant us your blessing" he already knows that you've asked her and shes said yes or you wouldn't be there but this way your asking for his approval which is good and if he doesn't want to alienate his daughter he has to say yes. It' probably better if you do it near other people to not right by them or anything but where if he gets mad he cant shoot you or anything.

walk in without the girl.
"Sir. As you might know we have been going out for quite some time. I think your daughter is the most beautiful girl/woman I have ever met and I feel she is the one.
I would like to ask for your consent in marrying your daughter.."
Try and make him feel good before saying the last line.

Father's are very protective of their daughters. You ask him if you can marry his daughter.......letting him know you love her and will care for her. He'll respect you for that... But if he tells you no, marry her anyway, and he;ll know you love her enough to take that stand.

Do you get along well w/your future in-laws? If so, you could always do the old-fashioned thing and go ask him for his daughter's hand. Say that you want to make a good, positive start. Even if you think it's corny and stupid, it might impress him. Talk to your fiancee and see what she thinks about that. And if they aren't terribly crazy about you, it would still be impressive and perhaps raise you up in their mind.
