If you are over the age of 18 you get a personal exemption of $3,150 plus a standard deduction of $5,150 for being single. This means you don't pay tax on that total of $8,300. You would file a return but no tax would be payable. If an employer withheld taxes you would get it all back.

However, if you are working for regular wages, you will start having taxes withheld from your check from the first day. If you are a student, and don't earn much, you may not have to pay any additional amount due on April 15th.

Nebraska is in the top 10 states for being the highest taxed. It is crazy--state tax, sales tax, property tax--are all high.
