The name Golden Gate refers to the 1849 California Gold Rush. The bridge is located at the entrance to San Francisco Bay, where most of the gold was shipped out of.

The color of the bridge is called International Orange. It's supposed to bright enough to be seen from airplanes and ships passing by the bridge during San Francisco' famous thick fog.
