Just start writing. Write about anything and everything. Make lists of characters (you won't need them all). Get those creative juices flowing.

I just write down everything that pops into my head. Think about what you want your novel to be like, then tell yourself, "I will get ideas every day," or something. Carry a writing implement and paper with you to write everything down---characters, plot, etc. If you're writing something contemporary, and your brother is who you will base a main character off of, watch him closely---the way he walks and talks, etc. I have been writing for so long that I don't really know how to give sound advice on it. Have fun, remember that it is difficult, stick with it and WAIT for two weeks at least, after the novel is written, to tackle the nightmare of finding a publishing company. That is a whole other story. WARNING: DO NOT SIGN WITH PUBLISH AMERICA OR ROSEDOG. They are two vanity companies (writer slang for scam company) who will rip you apaprt. There are many other vanity publishers. Be careful.

The best thing to do when you start writing is to make sure you are writing about a topic you can relate to. Too many times, in my writing, I have tried to write about things that weren't true to me. In order to write a good story, you have to feel it. Sometimes it helps to loosly base a character on a person you know, or a plot around an event from your life. The best thing you can do, however, is just start writing. It dosen't matter if it sounds like nonsense, sometimes from nonsense comes inspiration. Did you ever see the movie "Finding Forrester"? The writer, Forrester, tells the boy to just write. Don't think, write. A good story comes from your heart, not your head. Whether you are attempting a romance novel or the next classic, you have to feel the story, to breathe life into it. Writing is like meditating, you have to clear your mind and listen to your feelings. Also, don't cross out anything, just sit down, for say, an hour, and write whatever comes to mind, (even if it is about sitting and having nothing to write about.) Don't worry, ideas will come to you. You just have to listen.

Start brainstorming all the ideas you have and get them down and saved on your computer. Everyone starts writing in various ways but by now you should have lots of bits and pieces of ideas floating around. Stick with something you know well enough that you can have lots of details and strong imagery. Some stories start with a title, some start with a line of dialogue, some start with character studies, some start with a time or location. Organize your ideas into a outline or timeline.

There are books that might help.
But ultimately, I think it's trial and error. You start writing. Six months from now, you throw out 75% of what your wrote, or totally tear it apart so it no longer even resembles what you wrote the first time. Good writers constantly revise, revise, revise, then re-write. Your first novel may really stink, but you put it away as a good apprentice piece and start again.

The best thing to keep in mind is to write what you know about. You can pick an experience that happened to you and elaborate and expand on it, writing creatively so that it involves your imagination and becomes more interesting to people.
Or you could think about books you've read and try to write a novel in that same "genre."
Nobody can really tell you what to write about. A true writer has to use his/her own imagination!

why don't you write about a poor little girl who was raped when she was 11 and became a serial murder at 13 ? the world's youngest serial murder ever !! she would kill men between 20 and 25 only, cut their throat while having sex and leave a note saying "my next victim on such day" and at the said day she would kill another idiot who thought he would have good sex with an under aged.
then you could tell all the investigation by the police, sometimes she would even help them but eventually she would be taken by a policeman while having sex with him. then you could write about the media's frenzy, the TV networks getting nuts about the case and the trial, she would hire the best lawer because her father would be a C.E.O at Wal Mart and very rich... and so on... what you think ? Sounds good no ? If you become famous with my idea please mention my name and send me some money
