One to two weeks after hatching may be just a *bit* too soon. As for an exact time frame to begin seperation it varies between spawns I've had some who were able to stay together until nearly the seventh week with no problem and I've had some that go at it right off the bat. Anyway, I'd recommend seperation once they are weened off of live food and are used to pellets if you feel you are in a rush. Makes feeding easier to manage as live food can muck up those jars pretty quickly if overdone. I normally start moving my fry toward pellets around five weeks of age. That should give you a pretty good idea of how close you are to being able to seperate them. Just be careful not to do it too early those small jars can't be heated and a young fry may become stressed by the lower temperature. If they are around six weeks of age they should be just fine. I just noticed you mentioned fry at one inch in length in another question so chances are you're getting near the normal time of seperation anyway.

Also, if your tank is large enough the females can usually manage in a community setting just make sure you have live or silk plants for cover. You may still have to isolate the occassional female trouble maker. I realize this is off topic but it will help in the long run by cutting down the number of jars you'll need to maintain.

*Edit: About seperation, it seems like some of my fry go into a slump..a bit of depression if you will and refuse to eat for a while if they are *totally* isolated. I usually leave my little guys somewhat close together until they are near full maturity. I know it sounds weird but I'm just speaking from personal experience.

I always wait until they start to show aggression. Then I just remove the aggressive fish from the main fry tank and put the aggressive ones into individual aquariums.

You should separate them when they tell you to. By this I mean if they are all peaceful then there is no need to separate them. But when they start getting agressive with each other then you should start separating the aggressive ones and putting them in their own tank.

When they are about 1-2 weeks old. I would use a brine shrimp net to catch them, it is softer and gentler.

When they start flaring at each other...that would be trouble so seperate them. make sure dad doesnt eat them... there only good fathers until the babies get cocky...

Once they start to be mean to each other you should separate them.
