I don't understand why they haven't enlisted already.
They claim to love their country, and believe there is a real threat that needs to be destroyed, so why haven't they signed up and go fight overseas?

Definitely! Many agree with the war he started. So this is a case of truly supporting the commander-in-chief so that he may achieve his aim even if it is now blurry.
I do not think he needs a draft as there are enough true supporters to give him many times the 40,000 he is looking for, that is, if these supporters are real. They will start enlisting the moment Bush's clarion call is sounded. We shall have children of legislators, cabinet officers, leaders of commerce and industry and of course, volunteers from Britain led by Blair's children. All these people will throw away whatever they now do and leap into the armed forces to help fight Bush's cause. After all they are true believers or children and relatives of true believers and thus must be in the front line to defend the cause.
I submit the draft is therefore totally unnecessary. America's problem may be that it will have a hard job refusing the volunteers as the country is likely to be inundated by just too many people fighting to join the armed forces!! What an ideal scenario for Bush and his Administration but this of course, exist in dreams and imaginations!.
Reality is that Bush should admit failure and defeat and withdraw NOW, to save America and Iraq from more woes not to mention deaths. Save the billions earmarked for war for the betterment of both countries. As for Bush and his top cohorts, retreat to a monastary and pray for the redemption of their souls - if they had any, that is. The world then would be far better and more peaceful. About time America saved itself from Bush!!

Hey Montana Guy, thems some pretty dinky fishes you got. Oh wait, are those lures?
I guess I will be the only answerer on this question to say,
"My bags are packed, I'm ready to go....... I'm leavin on a jet plane.
I would go in a heartbeat, but, I've already served my country, and I served faithfully and equally under Republican and Democrat presidents and administrations.
If Hillary was president and she asked me to go fight with skinny little ethiopian kids, I would do it. Because she is the president and is asking her countrymen to serve the country.
I hope we do get a draft going, I am curious to see how many freedom loving americans will be trying to get into canada.
And your zeros are off a bit. It would 30,000 to 40,000 additional troops. ANd Bush isn't talking of reinstating the draft. The additional troops would be obtained by extending rotations in Iraq and speeding up the deployment of troops already scheduled to rotate in, and realigning manpower distributation at bases world wide to free up service members to go to Iraq.
You are needlessly stirring up peoples emotions, and needlessly bashing the President. You really should grow up a little.
And no, it is not his Idea. If I recall, the Iraq surrender group recommended. Withdrawal, increase strength or negotiate.
The president is just looking at his options.

We would not need a draft for another 30-40,000 troops. We have 300,000 alone in the Army reserve and National Guard alone. Remember the Gulf War? 500,000 troops were in the sand and there was no draft. This is no different. We need more men and we need a different strategy or we will never get out.

Well, I think it's only fair to start with the Bush twins and Cheney's daughter (maybe after she gives birth) and then on down thru the Bush administartion and to Congress. Surely, these avid supporters of the war would want to show their personal commitment by drafting and sending their own to fight!
Why, Condoleeza Rice says that the sacrifice of other people's children is "worth the investment". I would think and hope that Condi has a close relative she would like to commit to the "investment"!

Actually Sen. Democratic Randle suggested the draft even tho the president signed papers saying NO DRAFT, get it? Then Democratic Reid first suggested more troops and now Bush has mentioned it. Where you get your numbers from I don't know but I can tell you right now our soldiers make up all 3 parties but most of all they make up what people like you lack!

It won't be Bush that asks for the draft to be reinstated. It will be Representative Charlie Rangle (D-New York) who does. He is THE ONE PERSON, THE ONLY PERSON who has proposed the reinstatement of the military draft 3 times in the past year. It's a fact that after he's 2nd proposal, when the then Republican controlled House of Representatives surprised him with a floor vote, even he didn't vote for his own bill! Get your facts straight before you bash Bush!
That's ... CHARLIE RANGLE - DEMOCRAT - NEW YORK!

Yes and as a republican and an American I have already served and would do so again if called. But since Charlie Rangel, a democrat is calling for the draft, I think it is time to see if the left can protect our country since 76% of the military votes republican anyway.

You're a flat out liar, or completely misinformed. George W. Bush has said quite contrary to your claim that he would not reinstate the draft. The only public official who called for the draft to be brought back is a democrat from New York.

Unfortunately, neither he nor his henchmen nor his ingenious and fanatic supporters will have to go. They all knew it even before the moment Bush decided to invade Iraq. Being so safe as they are, why would they not ask for more troops ? More so when there are hapless soldiers who have no choice.

The draft is just legalized government kidnapping, nobody should be forced to go. But if the Bush fanatics support him that much I should expect that they will volunteer to go so there is no draft.
