How to use my PC joystick?

It is a normal joystick (not a flight yoke) and it is not branded. It is using a serial port(like monitors) I connect it to my system and what to do next. It has 4 buttons for direction on its left and 4 butttons for controls on the right. At the middle there is a "select" button and "start" button

1) That's NOT a serial port. It's called a "gameport"

2) After it's connected, go to control panel, game controllers, and see if it is listed there, and configure it / calibrate it.
