I've always charged car batteries in a garage or outside, currently it's pouring rain and I have no garage. Is it safe to charge a car battery (60ca) with an automatic charger (at 2A) in a smallish, unfinished basement (300 sq ft) where there is a running furnace?

It is a sealed, maintenance free type

Lead-acid batteries (car batteries) produce hydrogen during the charge cycle which is highly flammable. This is why manufacturers advise that they must be charged in a well ventilated place (not a basement) away from ignition sources (like a furnace)

I don't think any hydrogen buildup will be sufficient to cause a fire/ explosion. Sounds good to me!
