there should be a bubble on the taskbar that will tell you when a wireless network is in range. in order to search manually click on the start button > "connect to" > "show all connections" > wireless network > search for networks in range > then accept which ever one you want.

if your built in adapter does not provide that feature you can look on Yahoo Maps for Wi-Fi hot spots in your area...most Starbucks have Wi-Fi
