If u arent taking prenatals just yet u should be ok as well as your baby. But when u go to see a doctor ask them for some because they do benefit your child..Eye development, brain development etc. all of these things are excellent for your baby right now. U should of taken folic acid at the beginning of your pregnancy as this prevents birth defects in your child. If u arent taking any vitamins at all just make sure u see your doctor on a regular basis. Prenatal care is the most important thing for u and the baby to insure that u are having a healthy pregnancy. Back then there wasnt really that much prenatal care but there were vitamins and other nutrients that mothers would take during pregnancy. Its never to late to start taking a good vitamin. by this stage they shouldnt make u feel sick and u and your baby will benefit from them. Good luck and have a happy pregnancy!!

Everyone else is right, prenatal vitamins are usually just extra insurance toward a healthy baby and not mandatory. Most Americans (and everyone else in developed countries) eat more than enough food, in fact most of us are overweight and none of us go hungry (at least on purpose).

However, we don't always have the most balanced diet, myself included, therefore I took prenatals when I could, especially when TTC and the first six weeks because folic acid has been shown to reduce the chance of some birth defects, such as spinal cord anomolies. Other than that, most women with a normal diet will do fine without prenatal vitamins. But if they don't make you sick and the doctor gives them to you, it's a good idea to take them at least a few times a week, it certainly can't hurt.

Nothing really, I'm sure. Prenatal vitamins are just ensure you are getting the right nutrients, in case you arent eating properly or well. Its like a "Just in case"

It might be beneficial to you to start taking them now, its never too late. Its recommended you take them if you plan to breastfeed as well. Sometimes we dont always eat the most nutritious foods and may miss out on needed nutrients and not even realize it :)

During my pregnancy, just to make sure my babies were getting everything they needed I took a prenatal vitamin (started at 4 months), 2 chewable calcium pills and a folic acid pill.

I'm not suggesting that you absolutely NEED to take all these pills as I dont know what your daily diet is, but if you are worried you arent consuming enough of the proper nutrients your baby needs to be healthy, it wouldnt hurt to take a prenatal vitamin daily :)
You can also take just a regular multi vitamin too :)

Also, if your prenatal vitamin makes you sick to your stomach you can try taking it with food or you can cut it in half and take just half in the morning and half in the evening. If you are still feeling sick take it at bedtime and you'll sleep through it.

My prenatal made me feel nauseous so I took it right before I went to bed. I never felt sick again :)

Most likely, nothing bad will happen. Don't panic. The most important element of prenatal vitamins is folic acid.

This is because enough folic acid that is necessary for you and your baby are not naturally present in a normal, balanced diet. (Folic acid helps prevent neural tube birth defects such as spina bifida). If you eat a balanced diet, every other nutrient your baby needs is already being provided.

But don't worry, just start taking them now and follow the guidelines of your doctor/midwife from now on. Chances are, everything will be just fine. He/she may give you a prescription for a higher dosage of folic acid. Good luck!

Prenatals made me sick... so I had 3 pregnancies with no prenatals. As long as you eat enough of the right foods you and your baby will be fine. Watch you diet, limit salt, caffeine and sweets, eat lots of fruits and veggies, whole grains and protein. You can't go wrong. Good luck!!

PS... I craved salt and Pepsi when I was pregnant, my kids are very healthy.... every person and every pregnancy is different.

not much to the baby...the baby is getting everything it needs from you. The vitamins are for your benefit. I couldn't take the vitamins with my second child as they made me SOOOO sick to my stomach. But the downside of it is that can weaken the enamel on your teeth and your bones, but don't worry nothing reg vitamins won't take care of once you have the baby.

I didn't take my vitamins the entire time. Only for like the first few weeks and they made me sick and constipated so I quit. My baby was fine . 7lb 7oz. Perfect

Go to an Obstetrician immediately. Nothing is probably wrong with you, you are probably just missing out on some of your nutrients.
