i think we need more information to know what you are asking. i don't know what you mean by 2 way switch. are you talking about a single pole switch? a double pole switch? 3 way switch? or even a 4 way?

these are the names of the different switches that are commonly used.

i think you're asking how to wire a light to work off of 2 different switches. if this is the case you need two 3-way switches. you hook up a "hot" wire to the common (usually black) on one 3-way. then you need to run 2 wires to the pair of travelling terminals (usually light) to the other pair of travellers of the other 3-way switch. your next wire will go from the common on the second 3-way to the light along with your neutral.

if you're using romex, you'll need to do what's called "reidentifying." you'll need to use the white wire as a hot. to do this just use a marker to remark the wire. you can also wrap the reidentified wire with electrical tape.

ask again if you're talking about something other than 3-way switches.

I not sure if I know what you are talking about.... IF you are speaking of standard switch do the following
1 Cut the power off 2. Are you sure the power is off? 3. Go ahead and double check that power. In a standard box you have 2 set of wires Power in and To the light. Each of those set of wires have 3 wire(not in 3 way system see below) Bare Copper, Black and White. To make a standard switch you are going to twist the white together and cap with a wire nut. Twist the bare copper together and leave on of the legs long enough to go to the green lug on the switch... That leaves 2 black wire...One goes on lug (black or copper lug) the other on the other lug of the switch....

If you are speaking of a 3 way set( controlled from 2 point see below)

Hope that helps

PS Did I mention cut the power off?

the switch has a black terminal(three terminals instead of two)and that is the one that sends current to the other switch.they have four ways also.i use the directions on the three switch box for directions.just remember you will need a black, white, and another wire, usually a red one that will be used on black terminal.also it is called a three way switch, which means you can turn the light on in one place and turn it off in another location.

Are you asking what wire you have to run where? how to tie everything together? how to install the switches? If you don't know any of these things go buy a book or call an electrician. if you mess it up it will just cost you more later to have it fixed.

SOME TIMES, however NOT ALWAYS the manufacturer will indicate next to the screw which color to attach.
If not then you attatch the wire coated in BLACK to the COPPER screw and the wire coated in WHITE to the SILVER screw and attatch the COPPER wire to the GROUND (GREEN) screw if available (if not cut back or fold away from switch.

I think KAT is right, but if you have an electrical supply house near you, go in and ask them how to do it. It's very easy.
