So, when this company contacted me over the phone to offer me a job interview, they told me to ask for Mr. X the day of the interview, because he was going to do the interview. I went to the interview, and after it, I wanted to e-mail him a follow-up letter. However, I remembered that the man who interviewed me never introduced himself. I guess he forgot and I also forgot to ask him. I just assumed he was Mr. X.

Now I’m in a dilemma. Should I send the follow-up letter to Mr. X, even if I’m not completely sure he was the one? Or should I call the company and ask for the name -if so, how should I do this?

PLEASE, any good idea will be appreciated.

Thank you for your answers. In fact, Mr. X. is not the name they gave me. They mentioned one name over the phone. I'm just not sure if he's the one who interviewed me 'cause he didn't say and I didn't ask. Thanks.

Call the company and give them your name, the date and time of the interview and explain you need to maintain your job search files. Ask the personnel officer/secretary for the name of the interviewer with a description if necessary. There is nothing wrong with this request as it will benefit you, the interviewer and your potential employer. Every person on earth has forgotten a name...no big deal! Good luck in your job search.

Did you get his title? It might be on their web site. Or, if you have his title, you can call the receptionist and ask for the proper spelling of his name. Obviously, you've learned your lesson to get the card of the person that will interview you. Also, it's not a bad idea to ask the receptionist the proper spelling before you even go into the interview. That way you don't get too nervous afterward and forget.

The fact that they called him Mr. X was probably so they could track which ad you responded to. It might not be the worst thing in the world if you don't have his title to call and explain to the receptionist that you were nervous at the end of the interview and forgot to get his card. If it's not on the web site, that's about all you can do.

Good luck.

I could call the company and tell them when you interviewed, ask them for the name of the interviewer and say that you never got their name. They should be able to help you.

professionally speaking, it would be best to contact the company and get the person's name
