I think that my sons principal is racist, but it is a hard thing to prove.
I suggest that you talk to your parents and write down everything that she said to you and also the names of all who were present.
If there are any other incidents be sure to take note of those as well.
Your parents should speak to the president of the school or the diocese, or perhaps the priest. Explain what was said and the concerns.
The priest will probably give the principal a chance to explain herself. Perhaps you did not understand exactly what she was trying to say. However, if you walked away thinking that she believes that blacks should still be slaves and she did NOT mean that... then she definitely needs to work on her communication skills. Either way I think that there is room for improvement.

If you're on the up and up, then I think yes, you should go talk to your principal about it. However, whether or not the principal will believe you and/or address the issue may be another thing. Are you a student who is known for your honesty or do you have a history of "fibbing". Have you ever told a lie on somebody just to get them in trouble? I'm not saying you have, just saying that your own honor may come into question. You do have a right to confront the teacher yourself if you feel that you should. Any teacher who would make those kind of remarks to a student has no business teaching, Catholic School or not. It is a right in this country to practice freedom of speech and to say pretty much what you think, though, so be aware of that before you address the issue.
Have you noticed this teacher treating students of color differently from Caucasian students? Does this teacher demonstrate bigotry by making ethnic jokes to the class? Get all your ammunition in order if you intend to attack this issue. But I do commend you for being willing to speak out against an injustice when you see one.
I have no way of knowing your own race, of course, and it doesn't matter. What matters is that this was a totally inappropriate thing for a teacher to have said to you. Good luck.

First if you begin to accuse someone on your interpretation of a public speech which in your opinion is racist what happens if you can't prove it? What will you do when the school lawyers contacts your mother and discusses with them a lawsuit based on defamtion and slander from what you have been saying in a deliberate way to take this persons bread and butter away? And to make it worse they are standing behind the church. Unfortunately you're finding out that adults are really not idealistic and they could care less about making the world into a better place. If I were you, stay under the radar and you'll see this was the best approach.

Oh my God! A Chatholic School? I definitely talk too much, so I guess I am a chatholic too! I didn't know there were schools for us....... wow..........
Seriously though, if she is actually stupid enough to have said that black people should still be slaves she has no business working in that position.
First, talk to your parents. Make sure you yourself heard these words and that you are not spreading rumors.
If it is a Catholic school there is someone that she has to answer to (and not just God, I mean here on Earth). Find out who is her boss and have your parents contact them.
Here is what you need - proof.
No offense, but the word of one student will not mean as much as the word of several students, teachers and parents.
Good luck!

Go slowly. If you get in a situation where it becomes your word against hers - you will lose. For instance, are you sure she was not saying that to provoke a response in you? Some teachers say outrageous things in order to get students to argue back.
If you are sure she is really racist - and again, be careful, that's an explosive charge - engage her in conversation again, with a witness, and if you have a pocket tape recorder at the same time, so much the better. Ask her about what she said, and if she repeats it, with both a witness and a tape, then go to your parents and tell them, and let them deal with it.

Yes - but be very sure of your information. Make sure you have at least one person who can verify what you are saying, more if possible. Talk to you're parent/guardian about the situation before you do anything, maybe they will make the complaint on your behalf which would take the pressure off you somewhat. Be very proud of yourself for taking a stand!

Go to your school counselor ( you're school should have a counselor) and ask for some advice and look serious because this is a very serious concept. "There is only one race......HUMAN RACE." that is my motto. "A Honest Voice is Louder than a Crowd." You should be that honest voice. Stand up for yourself and your school and nation. I'm defiantly behind you 100%. Do what you gotta do :-)

Tape record a conversation with her and send it to a local newspaper. Or go to another school - you don't have to go to a private school.
