Wild dogs through years of evolution developed the ability to run for long periods of time. And why is this? Because they hunt in a pack or group. They have the ability, with alot of members on the hunt, to just run down their prey. When the lead dogs tire, others who have been in the rear taking it slow, move up to the lead and continue the chase. Eventually the target is caught and killed. Wild cats hunt alone and don't have the help of family members. So, over the years developed the skill to stalk and pounce quickly on its prey. By hunting alone, they had to developed speed instead of stamina for the hunt... Hope this helps with your question..

Billy Ray hit the nail on the head. Wolves hunt very much like this; all strung out for miles,in a constant relay, giving each wolf it's rest and also the packs greatest strength. The long, loping chase mode that can go on for hours.

Its like a quarter horse versus a thoroughbred.
The cat is made for quick launches and fast sprints like a quarter horse (named for 1/4 mile races)
The dog is made for slower pace but longer endurance like the thoroughbred.
made could mean evolved or created, I'm trying to be PC!
