God has called me to sing in the choir in church, but I'm not a great singer by any means. Can anyone give me some general tips on sounding better, and how to not sound like a mouse when hitting a high note. I know I should sing for God's glory and not worry about how good I am, but I would feel a little more confident if someone could help. I don't plan on taking any professional lessons, so if you can help, I would appreciate it. Thanks

Keep hitting notes on your piano and matching the pitch with your vocals, and gradually go up until you can no longer hit the note. It is hard to tell you what key you are most comfortable in without knowing your range, which will be determined with a piano.

And by the way, staying in key is way more important than your range. If you can't hit the notes you are trying to sing, then go down a few keys til you feel comfortable.

If you sing after the music starts you should have no problem singing the right key. If you have to sing before or without music, it's a good idea to have a sound(music note) device to remind you. Not many people and hum the correct note without it being played to them first....

As for sounding better. Sing to yourself and see how you like it and then sing to others, and get their oppions...

Practise...

you should be able to sing well in any key that is within your range. key is not important--range is.
