The vinyl roof on my 81 buick has dried up and I was able to pull some of it off, but don't know how to get the glued on stuff off. I would also like to know how to prepare/paint it after it is off, as I don't want to spend the money for another vinyl roof. (only abt a 1/4 of the roof is vinyl The rest is just paint)

I have done some scraping but didn't want to get to the metal, so I will try sanding; I was hoping for something easier, being a little allergic to hard work, so I will try the paint thinner and adhesive remover. Thank You very much. (and as soon as I saw the word landau, I remembered..darn I knew that!) Thanks again for sharing.

Just for clarification, a partially vinyled roof is known as a LANDAU roof.
You can try some adhesive remover, or just sand it off. BUT, be sure to AT LEAST cover any bare metal with primer AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, to prevent rust.

haha sorry i had a vinly roof on my 1983 cutluss. man when i took it off there was glue some rust and a hole. if your gonna ne the one to clean the glue of and anything else you might find then go for. use alcohol and paint thinner to take of the glue but its a lot of labor trust me. as for preparing paint i dont now i ended up priming my whole car before my dad sold to to a friend in mexico.
