Nearly all cell plans are 'free long distance' state-to-state but you're still going to use minutes unless you have "free" times in evening/weekend.

This will depend on your network provider and contract, whilst many companies offer "free minutes" there are often clauses that bind these, the best thing to do would be to look at your tariff that you're on, and to also contact your provider, or the shop you brought it from.

Failing that, a text-message is so much cheaper, and you generally get free text messages too, other than that, try looking into possible alternatives, such as Yahoo Instant Messenger or such, where you can call PC-PC for free.

Most plans include free long distance. If you call out of state a lot, it can actually save you money versus a "landline" phone--to say nothing of the added convenience of using a cell phone.

Look up in your plan, see if you have free long distance. If you don't then you can add it on to your plan by contacting your provider.
