hmm talk to him and say how you feel. but first ask that whatever happens it does not ruin the friendship tell him how you feel and ask him how he feels about all of this. if he likes you too then go out with him but if he doesnt tell him you would still want to be friends and your feelings towards him will soon die out so he has nothing to worry or feel bad about. or maybe flirt a little with him and if he flirts back then have the talk with him.

Rule #1. Buddies can't be lovers period! It's got to be one or
the other. It's two totally different feelings that will never
work. More than likely if he becomes your lover he will
never ever be your buddy again. Don't mess up a
good thing! You'll loose both in the end.

I would evaluate the importance of your friendship before I tell him anything. If he does not feel the same way, it will make your relationship uncomfortable. Maybe u could do some flirting, or brushing up against him, and see where it goes. Just make sure that you are sure about wanting to risk what you already have.

In my opinion, you should first see if you're willing to lose the relationship you have with him now, incase it goes bad, or incase he doesn't feel the same way you do, and ends up changing his mind about wanting to be a close friend.
After that, basically, ask him when you two are alone.
