Who do you think are Superman and Batman's top five villians each? Give reasons.

For each of them?
Superman-
1: Lex Luthor. Easily #1. He's dangerous, and does everything with a smile. Nothing will keep him from the top either.
2: Brainiac. He has the power to destroy the Man of Steel, and the smarts.
3: Mxy. No one can spell his name, but he could destroy Superman with a thought.
4: Darkseid. The living embodiment of evil, and Kal-El's physical match, even though he doesn't display it. He doesn't have to.
5: Parasite. He's a creature of instinct. Driven by nothing but hunger, he had to power to destroy Superman.

Batman-
1: The Joker. Yes, it's cliched, but refer to this month's Detective Comics for one of many, many examples.. He kidnaps Robin, and toys with him simply to torment him, no other reason. No one is as twisted or sadistic.
2: The Riddler. He's Bruce's intellectual equal. He orchestrated ruining Batman's life in the Hush storyline that ran in 2001, and proved he's one of the most dangerous rogues Bruce has.
3: Lex Luthor. He wants Bruce Wayne out of the picture, and Batman is as big a foe as Superman in his quest for the top.
4: Ra's Al Ghul. He's dead in the comics right now, but he's as cunning and intelligent as Batman, and as sadistic and evil in his goals as the Joker. And he's not crazy.
5: Deathstroke the Terminator. He's simply Batman's equal. He's as smart, as fast, as strong, etc, etc, etc. An all-out brawl between the two would probably kill one, if not both of them.

There's my two cents.

I don't know a lot about Superman, but I think Brainiac and Lex Luthor will be tied for 1st place as #1 villain. Brainiac is like the master of the evil side of the universe, and Lex obviously has the resources to at least send Superman in the emergency room. And the fact that he's Superman's archnemesis when he's just a normal human being (with superior intellect) says a lot about how evil he really is.

For Batman, it's pointless to say the an entire top five when it's pretty obvious that the Joker really is #1. He's a lunatic with brains. He's a psychopath and gets damn creepy. He did break Batman, at least in the movie 'Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker'. And he can do all that while still being funny (I find his name-calling funny).

Superman Villains

1. Lex Luthor. I would rate him as number one because DC, Animated Series, Movies and TV, etc make him number one. Personally, I think Superman could do better only because there's so much in the way of politics when Luthor's involved.

All the others below, in no particular order (probably missed a few):

Bizarro - classic, people for some reason identify with him (more than just a superman villain, his name is synomous with odd behavior). You sometimes also feel sorry for him (depending on the story). He complements Superman because he wants to be him but he also makes a mockery of him.

Mr. Mxyzptlk - because there is something really cool to having the powers he has but being constrained by rules. Mixy is imagination and impishness unleashed. When he's around, everything gets very interesting. He's just fun to watch.

Cyborg Superman - if there was an evil superman, this is him. Maniacal, power-hungry, no problems with killing. He's the one guy Supes has to take down... hard!

Metallo - because of his morphing capabilities, incredible strength, cold heart and ability to manipulate other mechanical devices - makes a great villian for superman and someone who creates alot of problems.

Brainiac - smart villians stay around longer than brute strength villians. They always find ways (tech, chemistry, master plans, etc) to fight and survive. The brightest of these sometimes develope cult followings because they bring so much to the table. This epitomizes Braniac who not only stays around but whose offsprings also become major players.

Batman Villains

1. The Joker - killing Robin and sending Batgirl to a wheelchair cemented his position as the number one Batman villian.

All the others below are unsorted - tried to stay away from the crazies (as they don't really appeal to me personally).

Ra's al Ghul - in many ways, Batman's true mental counterpart. He's batman without getting his hands dirty.

Prof. Hugo Strange - although this character has been around since forever, his stock is rising once again. Brilliant scientist with so many different ways to attack.

Deathstroke - He's become very popular (like deadpool) and displays the kind of killer instincts of anti-heroes like wolverine and the punisher. DC may be forced to make his role vague (in the grand scheme of things - a gray area villain, gray area hero...). Who's the better fighter, DeathStroke or Batman? Who's the better strategist? We may never know... perfect Batman counterpart.

Lady Shiva - in many ways, represents the new wave of villains that are making strides within DC. Batman used to have alot of crazies. Now he's dealing with the fighting elite, trained warriors, tacticians. And not all of them are men.

Bane - the guy broke Batman's back. Nobody will ever let you forget that. This remains his crowning achievement. Batman wasn't just beaten, he was crippled. Since May of 1939 (when batman first appeared), villians have been trying to break him. Bane did it physically. The Joker nearly succeeded on an emotional level. For Batman, this is personal...

Superman: 1. Luthor-A no brainer, his brains against the Man of Steel's brawn. 2. Myxoplick -Supers always has to trick him into saying his name backwards, which is never an easy task. 3. Bizarro--The only one that can match him punch for punch. 4. Braniac--That computer brain can usually match his I.Q. 5. The Parasite..Supes needs to stay out of his reach, or else. Parasite will also absorb his knowledge and find out he is Clark Kent.

Batman. 1. The Joker--No brainer. Two psycopaths, one is extremely hyperactive and bipolar, the other suffers from severe depression. 2. The Penguin--He matches Batman in the area of outthinking his foe, as well as Bruce Wayne when it comes to being charming. 3. The Riddler--Bats is the only one who can figure out his enigma puzzles. Riddler knows this, and often uses it to his advantage to set the trap. 4. Catwoman--Hey, that hot sexy bod in those black tights, what man wouldn't find that to be a huge weakness to fight against? 5. Two Face--Bruce Wayne's old friend Harvey with a split personality...The caped crusader never knows what personality to expect, and he always has the battle of his head and his heart when he goes up against him.

1)Doomsday. Why? You gotta give credit to the only villan to actually kill superman.
2)The Joker. Why? He's funny and insane, who could ask for more?
3)Aztek Man. Why? He's just a silly, contrived character (superman and batman took him on together) that I doubt anyone remembers.
4)Lex Luthor. Why? He's complex in a way that not many villans are.
5)Bizzaro. Why? I just think of Sealab 2021 every time I see him or someone mentions him. lol "I'm helping! I'm helping!"
