Now we can use computers to surf the internet wirelessly, use bluetooth, but we cant listen to a simple FM radio. does that make sense. they make radios that are smaller than a pen so why havent they just built one into a computer?

You can. With an FM tuner card.

As for why this isn't "standard", there isn't a desire for it to be standard.

Plus you can listen to music, listen to thousands of on-line radio stations (or real FM stations that also broadcast over the internet) such as at live365.com and the such.

You can also, instantly, find and listen to - or buy - whatever song you want on your computer.

There are also plenty of computers that have radio built in, but there just isn't a need. It's like a computer that will automatically type a letter, insert it in an envelope and print postage on it to mail out tomorrow to a friend. They can certainly do that (and some of them DO do that) but there isn't much a demand for that, since you can just type up an e-mail instead.

You would be annoyed if $100 of the cost of your computer went towards something you would never even consider using to make that standard.

I would be annoyed if $10 went to having on-board FM radio capability. I'd find a competing board that had everything else I needed - and not FM radio - at $10 cheaper.

Providing FM radio is a "specialist" request. And it's quite easy for you to do, if that's something you desire. FM tuner cards are dirt cheap. $10, if not less. Most of them on the market are $30ish and up, and you can also use it as a TV tuner (watching broadcast TV) or plugging in cable/etc.

I know where you're coming from. It's amazing how people think. You actually have to buy an FM tuner for your computer. You would think this would be pretty much standard these days...
