If you have not seen your son in 5 years--that's enough reason for a court to let the step dad adopt your child and terminate your parental rights. The fact that you have paid support is not enough. You need to have been doing both. THAT'S why you need a lawyer--b/c the judge is gonna kick your *** because he won't think you are serious about still being this child's father and having a relationship with him since you haven't done it to this point.
If she 'wouldn't let you' see him, then guess what? YOU should have taken her back to court about...oh...5 years ago and made her the bad guy (because now you are like it or not).
If you don't get a lawyer to help you out of this hole you've dug, you can say good bye to that child you don't even know.

I really think you need a lawyer/ You are not able to verbalize
your needs, frustrations, complaints and demands.
Make sure you produce all of your child support records and I do
hope you are not in arrears.
Adoption of your son, I hope is out of the question. Do not sign
anything until your lawyer has reviewed and approved it.
She has committed an infraction if you were kept from seeing your child, but you must have proof that she did this.
I don't understand why you waited so long to assert your right
as a father. Well, better late than never but don't think
the family court judge is not going to ask you this question.
Good luck for the sake of your child. He must be terribly
confused.

Lawyer knows the law, you need him to protect your rights. Who is she to not let you see your child, that is not right, you have that right. You do not have to let him adopt your child. You should have visitation rights already per your divorce papers, check it out. You pay child support already, this is many good points towards your case. GET a lawyer and protect not only your rights but the Right of you child to have his real Dad in his life. Lawyer is your mouth piece in court, get one. If you cannot afford one, go through legal association and get a free attorney, they will find one for you. Do not let this thing go through court without you being there. Get on it NOW.

The lawyer is there to protect your rights. Unless you are a lawyer, you likely do not know the laws where you live and what all of your rights are. You could be taken advantage of if you do not have a good lawyer.

There is an old saying he who has himself for an attorney has a fool for a client. You don't have to get an attorney. If you want someone who is an expert to help you get a lawyer. If visitation right are not that important to you then you can represent yourself.

Because you are trying to have your rights enforced in a legal proceeding. This is complex and you are a layman.
Even lawyers who file a lawsuit hire another lawyer. Representing yourself is a BAD idea.

Because, that is the only way you are going to get to see your son right now. You should have done this years ago. It's not fair and it's not right, but right now it's your only choice. Good luck.

Child support and visitation are two different issues!
If you have been paying support, and denied visitation
make the prosecuting attorney go after her for violation, it is a crime!
