What can I do? My daughters believe that people cause global warming & that Gore is the smarteset man alive.?

They embarrass me all the time by insisting that I am DUMB because I do not agree with them.

first,look up the ice core studies from the artic,they will tell you the tale of the temperature climate over the last few millennia,they are very accurate about the changes in the earths temperatures,
second,show them painted pictures from London during the middle(dark ages)and the Thames and other rivers are frozen solid(this was the mini Ice Age)..this also interrupted the Gulf stream flow in the Atlantic,the warm and cool waters of the atlantic that they say is the reason for Greenland melting,its happened before.
third,explain to them the thermal vents found in the Atlantic,and Pacific which warms the water past boiling.
fourth,Volcanoes,like Krakatoa,and the super volcano that erupted in the Ilse of Greece(also believed to be where Atlantis was,put more particles in the atmosphere in greater particulate matter than we Humans ever could)
fifth,tell them Time magazine put out the news we were about to enter a new mini Ice age back in the seventies(so why are they changing their minds now,thirty years cant do that much damage globally)
sixth,science is based on facts from data gathered and hypothysized not on consensus(which means a group believes it so,so it must be fact,but science does and should base it all on hard eveidence otherwise it is only a hypothesis(which means bullshit)
seventh,if we stopped all pollutants here in the US,do you think China would too? NO!
theres more than that but if they have a brain and can deduct any common sense they would realize this is all a fad for scientist(if you want to call them that) to get Federal money grants,and they have a better chance of being hit by a meteor than being effected by the so called global warming

Actually for the record, Animals do cause as much as cars about global warming. A recent university study said that methane from animals is a bigger source of Greenhouse gases than cars.
Don't forget CO2 & water are a greenhouse gas. So everyone stop breathing (a joke). Stop cooking. Stop setting Forest fires. Stop Volcanoes. No more Rainstorms. The water is a greenhouse gase. Are they a cause or effect of Global warming or is the Ecology trying to correct for the Global warming? Does Al Gore know that? Maybe we should stop the world from picking up space dust also.
We have only begun to study the world. It's been around for Eons Are you sure it isn't because we are getting closer to the sun. It's a fact that the Ice Ages occur on a regular basis. The Ice ages were caused by the Earth's orbit around the sun is not exactly a nice even circle. We get closer & further. The Ice Ages we now know were caused by the Earth getting farther away from the Sun. We are in the middle of the reverse. We are still coming out of the Last Ice Age.
Are cars & other things putting us over the top. 2000 scientists from a society of Scientists agree with Al Gore. 58000 from the same society agree that Global warming is something. They do not agree with Al Gore that Humans are the Total Cause. Some of them believe it's a natural thing caused by the "living earth" for lack of a better term & getting closer to the sun above. .
Tell your Daughter that if Al Gore is Right then they should walk/bike to school & all other places. No more cars, buses, trains or planes. Tell their friends to do the same. They have to give up their Playstations & Wii & Gameboys & XBox's. No more TV, Ipods or Blackberries No more Cooked food only raw vegetables. I suppose the could cut down on the animals creating greenhouse gases by eating them but they would have to cook them. More Global warming. Tell them to turn out the lights in school & home. Study by Candle light( sorry that might cause some C02 & hydrocarbons too but you have to have something for light less than the electric light). Tell them to turn down the Heat in the winter. No more A/C in School or home. This way we can stop using Coal & Fossil fuels. I could come up with more but you get the point.
Besides don't worry in a few thousand years as the world moves away we will all freeze

You may want to have them explain what Gore had to do with the axis of the earth moving 5 degrees from its normal position, following the devastating earthquake and tsunami of just a few years ago. Also why that earthquake had reverberations globally for almost a year. Ask then how can we puny earthlings think we have the capability to distress the atmosphere, compared to the 1500 active volcanoes.. spewing out their poison daily. Add to that the constant fires around the globe... we as humans can't even hope to compete with those particular aspects of nature..

Then ask them how come there have been global warming periods in the past... as well as global freezing..considering we are still coming out the the last glacial age.. 10,000 years can pass rather rapidly.

The earth is a living, thriving thing.. it functions in cycles, as do most living things of the earth. Gore and his cronies have some monetary factor involved in what they continue to present.. we need to determine just what it is...particularly since it involves cow-towing to the UN for decisions we need to make ourselves.
Gore's ambitions are for a global government.. not national, as in US of A.

Not agreeing does not make you dumb. It just means that you have a difference of oppinion. Please don't let them call you dumb. You are the parent.That is disrespectful to you. Your daughter is smart, but she doesn't know everything. None of us do.
Personally I believe that global warming is caused by many factors. , not just by people. Make them write essays to support their beliefs . They will then learn that people are not the only reasons for global warming. And it will make them even smarter.

I really hope to see the documentary Gore made. I have heard it is very well done. People are contributing to the shift in carbon dioxide levels in our atmosphere which is in turn contributing to global warming. (among other manmade pollutants) As to your problem with the kids thinking you are 'stupid' and embarrassing you, well, that's their job. All kids do it some time, now is just your turn.
People don't realize maybe, the earth will go on for a very long time. It will be us that will be gone.

You are not dumb, just mis-informed. People most certainly DO cause global warming. It is a proven fact. Pollutants, auto emissions, chemical emissions, etc...People drive the cars, use the chemicals, etc.... Al Gore is NO genius, but he is well informed, and very well educated on the causes and effects of global warming. I am sure I am much older than your daughters, and I have to say, they are correct. NOT about the dumb part, only the global warming part. Do your own fact finding. Go to your local library and READ about global warming. It isn't propaganda, it is a fact, and a scary one at that.

never mind the wise a#s remark about your spelling. Even with spell check most users can not spell their own name. I remember when my children were in school and a teacher told them spinach had a deadly poison in it. And something about Popeye being a fake. That was the last of the spinach consumed in my home until the kids became adults. I tried to explain you had to eat a TON of spinach before it hurt you. I don't know about Al Gore being the smartest man alive, but he is right about global warming. People have a lot to do with it: driving cars that emit dangerous fumes, using leaf blowers and other machines that emit dangerous fumes, not conserving energy- using gas guzzling vehicles, etc.

Al is right. Your daughters have a point. Perhaps you need more enlightening.
